Early Detection of Hair Loss

Am I Losing Hair?

We see a lot of patients at the Toronto Hair Transplant Clinic who have waited until the very end of their hair loss before they seek an assessment or treatment. Early detection is often the key to prevention and to the best treatment results when it comes to hair loss. If a patient who is suffering from hair loss is able to get an assessment and the proper treatment plan, not only will they be able to replace most of the hairs that have been lost, but they will also be able to reduce the hair loss in the future. This means that by seeking the advice of a specialist such as Dr. Torgerson in the early stages of hair loss, a hair restoration plan can be created to ensure that you never have to go completely bald.

If you think you may be experiencing hair loss, consider the following signs of hair loss:

  • Are you noticing areas of thinning hair (especially the temporal or crown areas)?
  • Is your hairline receding, or do you have thinning in the part of your hair?
  • Are you losing large amounts of hair in the shower, etc.? (Note: Normal shedding is a loss of 50 to 100 hairs per day.)
  • Has the overall volume of your hair decreased?

These are the most common signs of hair loss that can be observed well before noticeable baldness occurs. If you feel like you are experiencing any of these, you should book a consultation with the Toronto Hair Transplant Clinic.

Get an Assessment & Diagnosis

Although self-examination can be an effective way to monitor the possibility of hair loss, it is also recommended that you seek a professional assessment to determine what is causing it. There are a wide variety of factors that can contribute to hair loss, but establishing which is affecting you will require a visit to the Toronto Hair Transplant Clinic.

Below are some of the most common factors associated with hair loss:

  • Family history – Male and female pattern baldness
  • Issues with iron or thyroid
  • Certain medical conditions such as autoimmune deficiency, diabetes, and lupus
  • Smoking
  • Age

How Successful Is an FUE Hair Transplant?

The results of FUE transplants are long-lasting with a permanency rate of over 90%. Following the transplant, patients typically notice some shedding, which is completely normal and expected. After the hair sheds, it will grow back noticeably stronger and healthier.

How Long Does the Procedure Take?

Although it will vary from person to person, on average the procedure takes around 6 to 8 hours.

What Is the Recovery Period Like?

The FUE method allows patients to be back in their regular routine within a few days. Since there are no stitches or sutures, the recovery period is relatively short and smooth. Instructions and aftercare product packages are provided at our clinic to make your recovery as comfortable as possible.

We Can Treat Almost All Types of Hair Loss

It usually takes anywhere from 6 to 9 months to start seeing your new head of hair. The transplanted hair from the donor site will have the same characteristics as it did prior to your hair loss.

Who is a Suitable Candidate for a Toronto FUE?

The perfect candidate is usually one who is experiencing male pattern baldness. People who are experiencing temporary hair loss brought on by things such as stress or hormonal changes are generally not ideal candidates. A transplant is also typically not a good idea for people who are already almost bald. To have a successful procedure, the patient must have sufficient hair in the donor areas to extract follicles from.

The best way to determine if you are a suitable candidate is to schedule a private consultation at our clinic. During a one-on-one discussion with Dr. Cory Torgerson, you will be able to get answers to all your questions and determine if you are a good candidate to benefit from a hair transplant.
