Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy at the THTC

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

The Toronto Hair Transplant Clinic is now offering platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy to combat hair loss.

PRP is a simple non-surgical procedure where a patient’s own platelet-rich plasma from their blood is used to stimulate hair growth and provide fuller and healthier hair. The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes and provides great results. PRP is great for patients looking for an affordable alternative to a full hair transplant, but it is also amazing as a supplement to a hair transplant procedure.

How It Works

A patient’s own platelet-rich plasma is injected into their scalp. The growth factors and healing factors in the plasma work to restore and promote hair growth. PRP works for both men and women and has produced amazing results for our patients.

A patient’s blood plasma contains active growth factors that can promote hair growth. A sample of blood from the patient is placed in a centrifuge and spun at high speeds to separate the enriched stem cells, or platelets, from the other blood components. The plasma is injected into the scalp using a needle to enhance hair growth by stimulating and repairing dormant or damaged hair follicles. Each injection leaves a small amount of plasma close to the hair follicles, which are stimulated by the growth factors and stem cells. This produces higher quality hair and hair growth. PRP can be used as its own hair restoration treatment to restore certain cases of hair loss. It also works great in conjunction with a hair transplant to ensure the greatest results.

How Many Sessions Will a Patient Need?

Most patients will start noticing the benefits around a month after the first treatment. We recommend 3 sessions for the best results with a gap of 3 to 4 weeks between each session. Additional single treatments at 6 months or 1 year are also beneficial.

How Much Does It Cost?

A single treatment will cost $1,000 + HST, and a package of 3 is available for only $3,000 (a savings of $600). Please note that this price is subject to change over time.

What Is PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) Therapy?

Frequently Asked Questions About PRP

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. Our blood contains red and white blood cells as well as platelets, which are rich in growth factors. These platelets help our body heal by restoring the normal strength of the tissue and cells. They also increase blood flow and stimulate hair follicles to grow healthier.

Is PRP New?

Not really, but it is only recently that it has been used for hair restoration. The technology has been used for years in other surgical applications and wound care, initially as a healing adjunct to open heart surgery. In recent years, PRP has shown awesome results when used for hair restoration and, even more recently, in spinal injuries.

Does It Hurt?

There is some minor discomfort when the injections into the scalp are made, but we use local anaesthetic to minimize any needless discomfort.
