Encouraging Faster Hair Growth Following A Hair Transplant

Faster Hair Growth

After A Hair Transplant

After receiving a hair transplant, most people find patience a hard quality to master. This is completely understandable, of course. Healthy follicles with hair have been moved to places where there was previously no hair, so it’s not wrong to expect that hair should look fuller and denser right away. Unfortunately, due to shock fall-out and other factors, it may take some time for the new hairs to grow in as thick and healthy as they once were when they were at the donor site.

When hair restoration surgery occurs, entire hair follicles are transplanted into tiny incisions at the recipient site. This can cause trauma for the donor hair, leading to effluvium – otherwise known as the fallout or shedding of healthy hair. This very concept is concerning, of course, but is completely natural following the procedure. Once the follicle has properly anchored to its new location, hair will begin to grow. At first, the growth may be slow and finer than what is common for the patient. In fact, it may take quite some time before a patient sees completely satisfying results. However, over time, successful hair grafting is indistinguishable from natural hair.

Thankfully, throughout the early growing process, there are some ways to kickstart and encourage hair growth. Some are as simple as healthier lifestyle choices, while others can include topical medications.

Eating A Balanced Diet

Staying Hydrated

Ensuring a healthy diet that is rich in minerals, vitamins, and proteins will help strengthen your hair follicles and allow hair to grow more quickly. Certain vitamins can promote the development of collagen and healthy cells throughout the body.

Most of these vitamins can be ingested through diet. Things like eggs (more specifically, the yolk) and almonds contain biotin, a vitamin excellent for hair growth. Citrus fruits, strawberries, and red peppers are packed full of vitamin C, which boosts collagen production and is beneficial for both hair and skin. As well, oatmeal and wheat breads are both highly fibrous and rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), which are known to stimulate hair growth.

If you feel that getting an additional boost of vitamins might help encourage quicker growth, vitamin B6 capsules are beneficial for hair as well as for skin and nails.

Dehydration can lead to dry, brittle hair that breaks easily and grows much more slowly. This is why it is important not only for your hair’s health, but for your overall health as well to drink 2 to 3 litres of water daily. This helps eliminate potential disease caused by bacteria by flushing out toxins through urination.

Limiting Exercise

Scalp Massages

Immediately following your hair restoration surgery, your doctor will likely advice against strenuous physical activities. These include cycling, jogging, playing sports, and other forms of cardio. This is not only to help the healing process, but because excessive activity can, at first, increase the occurrence of effluvium. Though, as noted earlier, hair fallout is a naturally occurring process, it’s great to avoid it if at all possible.

After your hair transplant, you’ll find that your scalp is quite tender both at the donor site and at the transplant site. It goes without saying that your hair and scalp should be treated with great care. With your doctor’s approval, you may find that a gentle scalp massage will encourage hair growth. The stimulation renews blood flow to the follicles, which fosters new growth.

Minoxidil

Minoxidil, the commonly known active ingredient in Rogaine, is clinically proven to stimulate hair growth and is an excellent way to motivate growth in the early stages following hair restoration. Speaking with your doctor will help you determine your ideal strength levels for treatment.
