Comparing Toronto Scalp Micropigmentation and FUE Treatments: Key Differences

What Is Scalp Micropigmentation Treatment?

If you are considering hair restoration treatment to address balding or thinning hair, it is important to be well informed on the various treatments available. Scalp micropigmentation in Toronto (SMP) and follicular unit extraction (FUE) treatments are two of the most popular and effective means to restoring a healthy head of hair. However, they are quite different. Keep reading to find out the key differences between them.

SMP treatment is a method of hair restoration that uses cosmetic pigmentation to restore the appearance of density in the hair. During the procedure, highly specialized equipment is used to inject tiny dots of pigment into the thinning or balding area of the scalp.

A Toronto scalp micropigmentation treatment is a highly effective way to treat a variety of hair concerns. Patients who would like to lower or restore a receding hairline can enjoy a strikingly natural hairline as a result of the procedure. Furthermore, patients suffering from various types of hair thinning concerns such as crown balding can also benefit from the treatment. SMP fills in the spaces in the scalp, resulting in the appearance of a dense and healthy head of hair.

What Is FUE Treatment?

SMP can also be used to effectively camouflage the appearance of scars resulting from a previous hair transplant or from skin trauma such as burns. The treatment can treat hair loss related to surgery or illness as well as camouflage the appearance of birthmarks on the scalp.

FUE is another highly effective hair restoration method delivering natural-looking results. Standing for follicular unit extraction, this procedure involves the use of a handheld device to extract healthy hair follicles from the back and sides of the head. It then transplants them to the recipient areas of the scalp that are experiencing thinning or balding.

One of the major advantages of FUE over traditional hair transplant methods has been the minimally invasive nature of the procedure. FUE results in minimal discomfort and no visible scarring. Furthermore, the treatment is typically completed in a single clinic visit and delivers permanent results with an average take rate of 94% for the transplanted hairs.

How to decide which treatment will be better for you

When it comes to comparing a Toronto scalp micro pigmentation treatment and an FUE treatment, it is important to consider some of the key differences.

With FUE treatments, patients who are experiencing advanced hair loss or are already bald are generally not good candidates. This is because there is insufficient donor hair to harvest for the recipient site on the scalp.

SMP, however, can be effective even on patients who are in the advanced stages of hair loss or who are bald. Furthermore, there is also a limit to how many FUE procedures one client can undergo as, again, there may eventually be insufficient donor hair to use. With scalp micropigmentation, on the other hand, since donor hair is not a factor, it can even be done on clients who have undergone a previous hair transplant and are unhappy with the results.

On the flip side, SMP is a semi-permanent procedure, which is sometimes viewed as a disadvantage because laser removal may be required to reverse the results of the procedure. Furthermore, since UV rays can cause fading over time, touch-up treatments are often required, whereas with an FUE hair transplant, touch-ups are generally not needed. Also, FUE involves the re-growth of healthy and natural hair, whereas scalp micropigmentation is simply creating the appearance of healthy hair.
