Tory Lanez Shares Feedback on his Recent Hair Transplant Procedure
Earlier this week, Daystar Peterson, better known as Tory Lanez, shared his experience on his recent FUE hair transplant procedure. The 26-year-old Toronto native was on a radio talk show in New York promoting his new album and was asked about his “new” hairline.
Unlike most celebrities, he was very open and expressive about his procedure. The talk show host Ebro, who is bald himself, was quite amazed with the results and Tory’s feedback on the procedure.
Tory Lanez & Hair Transplant Procedure
The 2017 Grammy nominee Tory Lanez made his way in the music industry back in 2015 as a rapper/singer and had a clean-shaven bald head ever since. It wasn’t until just a few months prior to his interview in New York, Tory shared images via social media with a short trim haircut showing off his “new” hairline. The images of his hair growth raised concerns, and the discussion was trending across various social media platforms whether he got a hair transplant or not. Tory admits in the interview that he always had had hair on his head. However, he wore the bald look due to his side edges receding. He realized that it was time to slow down and make changes after growing out his beard and looking 10 years older than his actual age. Tory explains how he met with a doctor who specializes in the texture of African-American hair and wasn’t originally going to proceed until at the last minute he decided “Why not?” During the interview, Tory stated, “What’s the worst that can happen? I’m already bald.” Tory also expresses how it can be frustrating and hard to consistently shave and maintain the smooth, bald look. Tory and Ebro also exchanged thoughts on never being embarrassed due to other people getting procedures such as veneers and breast implants. Lanez also shared his perspective on PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injections and SMP (scalp micro-pigmentation) in the interview.
African-American Hair Loss
African-American hair has distinctive roots, and the hair tends to be curly or wavy as well as coarse. This makes it more difficult to extract the hairs without causing damage to the follicles and can lead to different issues when transplanting them as compared to people of other ethnicities. Black men and women also tend to have a total of approximately 60,000 follicles in the donor area compared to Asians (who typically have around 80,000 follicles) or Caucasians with 100,000. This means that the total number of hairs that can safely be extracted without over-harvesting the donor area is lower. But because of the unique qualities that African-American hair has, this just means that more can be done with less. Because African-American hair is usually dark, curly, and coarse, it takes up more space, and not as many grafts are needed to take up as much “real estate”. All of these unique conditions boil down to one simple solution . . . experience!
