SmartGraft Beard Transplants
At the Toronto Hair Transplant Clinic, we see quite a few men who are interested in adding facial hair to the beard, moustache, and goatee area. With the SmartGraft FUE (follicular unit extraction) hair transplant technology, we are able to offer our patients amazing and natural-looking results. And you don’t even need any lengthy downtime because there is no invasive surgery that leaves visible scarring. The SmartGraft FUE hair transplant method allows us to take the hairs that we are going to use to create your brand new beard from the back of the scalp. The follicular grafts are taken out as individual grafts instead of having to cut a strip of scalp out like the FUT (follicular unit transplant), or strip method. This means that you are able to get that perfect beard that you have always wanted without any visible scars – and with a much faster healing time.
Dr. Torgerson spends time with each patient to make sure that the design is perfect. Designing a beard involves creating the lines to properly suit the patient’s face. But the most important part is making sure the hairs are implanted at the right angles so that they grow in the same direction as the native hairs around the transplanted grafts. It is also important to know that because the hairs are taken from the back of the scalp, they will grow faster and longer than the hairs that are normally found in the beard. The hair itself, however, is a great match and will look very natural once the hairs start to grow in.
Once the right amount of grafts have been harvested to complete the best beard implant (typically anywhere from 600 to 1,200 grafts are necessary for a beard), the sites where the grafts will be transplanted are made. This is a very crucial stage. It takes skill and experience to make sure that every site is made at the exact angle and depth so that the hairs will look completely natural when they grow out. Similar to any hair transplant, it will take 3 to 4 months before the hairs start to grow and a full year before the hairs grow to full length.
The face is quite vascular, so healing does not take long, but it is still necessary to be extra cautious with the transplanted grafts for the first 10 days. Patients may experience some redness and inflammation of the transplanted area for a couple of weeks, but our beard transplant patients have all told us that they couldn’t believe how easy the whole process was.
