Igor is one of our technicians here at the Toronto Hair Transplant Clinic, and he is a big part of our hair transplant team. Igor also suffers with advanced hair loss. So, needless to say, we decided to help Igor fix this hair loss issue.

Igor is a class 6 on the Norwood Scale and has been dealing with his hair loss by doing what most men do in this situation: maintaining a shaved hair style. But after a few months, he will no longer have to worry about this issue so much.

The first that we did to help Igor restore his hair is to give him a PRP treatment. PRP (platelet-rich plasma therapy) is a very effective, proven way of treating hair loss. It works by drawing your blood the same way that you would if you were donating blood or going for blood work. Once the test tube has been filled with blood, it is spun in a centrifuge to isolate the platelets from the red and white blood cells. The platelets are the most important part of the blood for this procedure. They contain the growth factors and healing properties that are effective in the treatment of hair loss. This platelet-rich plasma is then injected back into the scalp in the areas of hair loss. After 3 to 6 months, the patient will start to see some great results. We will, of course, be tracking Igor’s results, and we’ll post the before and after photos when they are ready.

The second and most important thing that we did for Igor is a hair transplant. We will be doing at least 2 procedures on Igor to restore his hair. The first procedure was to restore his frontal hairline. In a hair transplant, the frontal hairline is always the most important place to start. The purpose of a hairline is to frame our face. It’s only when the hair has receded to a certain level in the front that we are considered “bald”. So the key part of any advanced hair loss strategy is to create a solid, dense, and natural-looking hairline. We used roughly 1,800 grafts for our first phase. The grafts were of great quality and had a lot of multiples. We could have gone for more, but anything over 2,300 grafts is considered a “mega session”, and the success rate goes down. With 1,800 grafts, we expect a 94% take rate that should provide us with very nice results in the area that was transplanted.

We also made sure to provide him with the aftercare products. The aftercare products consist of the scalp cream to help keep the donor area moist and aid with the healing process as well as a spray-on shampoo that helps with washing the hair without having direct shower pressure hitting the grafts. Direct pressure from the water can cause them to dislodge and therefore not grow.
