Follicular unit grafting consists of a graft smaller than 1 mm that contains the follicle that will be transplanted. Some grafts can hold up to 5 hairs per follicle. Single-hair follicles are used to create the outline of a hairline or for facial hair transplants such as eyebrows. The multiple hair grafts are used for areas where more density is wanted. In the case of eyebrow transplants, the multiples are dissected under a microscope into single hair grafts. Each eyebrow typically needs anywhere from 100 to 500 hairs, depending on the level of hair loss as well as the desired result.
