What Is An FUE Hair Transplant?

What is Involved in an FUE Hair Transplant?

If you have been considering having an FUE hair transplant , it’s a good idea to do your research on how the different methods of hair transplant actually work before moving forward with your procedure. If you’re opting for a FUE hair transplant, take a look at this guide to find out more about the FUE technique.

There are two main methods used in hair transplant procedures: FUE and FUT (strip method). Having an FUE hair transplant involves individual follicles of hair being harvested from the donor area and transplanted into areas of the scalp that are experiencing hair loss or wherever the hair is being transplanted to. (This can include the scalp, beard, or eyebrows). Although FUE hair transplants take more time to perform, they are generally the preferred method of hair transplant treatment. This is due to drastically reduced recovery times, very limited visible scarring, and the possibility of hair transplants for patients who have particularly tight scalps, where the strip method would not be possible.

Steps For an FUE Hair Transplant Procedure

If you decide that an FUE hair transplant is the right choice for you, here’s what you can expect to have happen on the day of your procedure:

1. Pain killers, sedatives, antibiotics, and local anaesthetic injections are given to numb the donor and recipient areas and make sure that our patients have the most comfortable experience possible.

2. Individual follicular grafts are removed using a small, round punch less than 1 mm in size.

3. Sites are made in the recipient area for the follicular grafts to be planted into.

4. Follicular units are placed into these sites in the transplant area.

5. Grafts are inserted at the correct angles and patterns so that they match your natural hair growth pattern.

6. After your procedure, you will be cleaned up and bandaged up and able to leave with a friend or family member to escort you home.

7. Recovery times on average are 4 to 10 days, depending on the patient.

What to Expect After Your FUE Hair Transplant

Once your FUE hair transplant procedure is done, you will need to be escorted home because you will be medicated throughout the day. It can take around 7 to 10 days for a full recovery, during which time you may experience some slight discomfort or swelling. To make sure that your recovery is as easy as possible, it’s very important to follow all aftercare instructions provided for you.

The results of any hair transplant are not immediate, and it will take patience. It can take anywhere from 4 to 9 months before there is a noticeable difference to your appearance. Following an FUE hair transplant, new hair will begin to grow in around 3 or 4 months afterwards. Despite this, it will take at least 6 to 9 months before you have a visible difference.
